Formula TU Ostrava

Formula TU Ostrava competes in the international competition Formula Student.
The team consists of bachelor’s and master’s students from all faculties of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
The goal of the competition is to build a race car in the Formula Student category. During this process, we gain valuable knowledge and experience, which increases our employability in the job market. However, as a team we have one goal — TO WIN!

Formula TU Ostrava
Progress.
The first idea for the project was born in 2013, and the first functional racing monopost Vector 01 left the workshop just a year later. Each following year the vehicle progressed in terms of technical development, and in 2025 the team introduced a new, already tenth monopost – Vector 10.
The biggest achievements of Formula TU Ostrava
We are proud to say that, except for the COVID-19 crisis, when the races were canceled, we have continued with 100% commitment and have not missed a single racing season.
The year 2025 has been the most successful season in the team’s history. At the races in the Czech Republic, we placed 3rd overall and also won 1st place in the Business Plan Presentation discipline.
We also achieved success in Austria, where we won 1st place in the Cost & Manufacturing discipline, finishing 7th overall.
Our success does not end there. We moved up in the world rankings from 94th place to 42nd place in our category, placing us among the TOP 50 student teams in the world. We also reached the TOP 10 in the European rankings and currently hold the world’s first place in the Cost and Manufacturing discipline.

Formula Student
Basic information about the competition.
Formula Student is a competition for university students designing and building racing monoposts. University teams from all over the world design, construct, and test formula-style race cars and later compete with them on prestigious racing circuits around the world.
The goal is to design and build a real racing monopost for a student driver. During competitions, teams are evaluated not only in dynamic racing disciplines, but also in static presentations.
How does it work?
The competition follows two types of regulations: FSG (European) and FSAE (rest of the world). The races also include technical inspections, where teams must prove that their vehicle meets the rules, especially regarding safety. These inspections consist of several tests.
When did it all begin?
The competition was founded in 1981 in the United States.
The first competition in Europe took place in 1998.
Why participate in races?
Participation in worldwide competitions is a great showcase for the university and also provides publicity for the teams’ sponsors. Companies often hire participating students after graduation — or even during their studies.
